I am starting as a volunteer for the National Trust at Tyntesfield, Wraxall, Somerset. This house is Victorian built around 1864 but was built in several stages. It is a vast Gothic house in a large estate and it makes me whoop with delight....it has that effect on you! I passed several visitors yesterday who were grinning from ear to ear just to be there.
I am working on a book of Victorian innovations and memories of architecture as a playground. This stems from my childhood memories of living in a similar house, albeit smaller, however it did have a servant's staircase.
